Somebody told me that it would be a good idea to start a journal to let people in the free world know how I spend my day and all the things I do throughout the day.
Sunday, March 24th, 2002
I woke up at 5:30 because I have to work the hall today. So I sit up on the end of my bunk, turn on the TV to watch a little news (sports). I then get up off my bed, brush my teeth, wash my face and brush my hair. Then I put on my pants, shirt and shoes.
Breakfast time. The guard came to let me out of my cell, to feed breakfast. On my way down I take the garbage with me so the garbage man can take it outside.
Then I pass out juice which only a couple of guys drink. It's orange water with ice in it. Now it's time to pass out trays, they are hard plastic, easy to wash. I stack the trays on a rack 7 at a time, but since I only have 10 people to feed and three of them don't eat, so I only have to make one trip. We have powder eggs, grits, 2 biscuits, milk and peanut butter mixed with grape jelly. And burnt coffee.
Now it's time for me to eat. I get 2 trays, 2 milk go to my cell, sit down and eat. When I'm done I pick up the trays and take them back downstairs.
I have to come back to my tier. I wake up the guys that are going to church. Then the guard comes to let them out. Then he locks the big door so I can't leave off the tier.
I get all my dirty clothes together, sheets, underwear, T-shirts, socks and pants. I put them in the big white barrel so I can wash them later. I don't send my clothes to the laundry because they come back as dirty as they were when I sent them.
Walk time. So I wake-up the guys that's going to walk, when the guard comes up I let him know who's going to walk.
Outside. We walk about 10 feet to the walk yard. It's about 180 guys here. They can't walk all of us at the same time. So we walk in 2 groups 25-30 at a time. We walk inside a double fence with razor wire at the top and bottom. There' a guard tower with a guard in it with a shotgun, and on the other side is a guard in a truck with a shotgun. And on the yard with us are 3-4 guards.
We have a full length basketball court, a vollyball court with sand. A track where guys can jog or walk. We have weights 495 pounds, bench and curl bar.
Today I played basketball – 4 or 5 games before the hour was up.
The guard calls 5 minutes everybody starts making their way back to the door of the fence.
The guard call going in, everybody goes back to their tiers where we are locked up and another group goes out.
Back inside. I come back to my cell, take a wash-up, change clothes. Then I go wash the clothes I have on and the ones in the barrel. Once I'm done washing them I hang them up in the back of the tier on a clothesline made from pieces of sheet.
