Letter from Michael Sharp
by Michael Sharp

(a letter of goodbye that Michael wrote to the other prisoners shortly before his execution to be read at a Death Row church service)

My Dear Brothers can't help but turn to you as I prepare for this sweet going as each and everyone of you have endured and suffered with me through countless trials and tribulation. I imagine your Faces and can instantly see the past we have shared together.

Everyone of you made it possible for me to walk with Christ, you bent me like a twig, and as the twig is bent, so grows the tree. I found in you encouragement, strength, acceptance, and unconditional love. The hope of Christ that I see in all of you settled in my heart and changed my life forever. For this, I owe you much. I thank you for what you have given to me.

Seeing Christ in you made me realize that we are valuable just because we exist, so I leave you with the words that what God knows about us (Death Row) is more important than what others say about us. We all know worse things about ourselves than what others can say about us, so pay no mind to those who does not have the Lord's compassion, love, and mercy in their hearts concerning us. God didn't call us to be successful, just faithful. For those of you who I leave behind, remember that you are here on business for your King, and by living for Him, you will find it much easier to die like Him.

I don't know what to expect when I cross that river when passing to the other side, but know with a certainty, that if it is possible, I will fight for you there in Heaven as hard as I have tried to fight for you here. Stand firm, be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

God bless you.
