My name is MICHAEL JEROME BRAXTON. I was born on 6/1/73 in Durham, NC. I am of African-American and Caucasian descent. I enjoy sports, chess, reading and corresponding. I love music, particularly hip-hop and soul, but I also listen to a little rock, reggae and some classical. I was wrongfully convicted and sentenced to death in 1997 for the death of another prisoner which was an act of self-defence. Two weapons were found at the scene, one being the weapon that I used to defend myself and the other belonging to the deceased. However I was convicted on the false testimony of a jailhouse informant who claimed that he saw me in possession of two weapons, and the “expert opinion” of the Stat’s pathologist who testified that the wounds of the deceased were “consistent with two different weapons”.

Evidence has come to light in my post-conviction review that shows statements from the State’s key witness were withheld by the prosecutor prior to my trial, statements that the witness made to the prosecutor in an interview, that he “knew that the victim had a shank”, and that “he saw a shank in the victims towel.” This evidence could have exonerated me.

I am appealing to any and all for help in bringing my case to justice. Please write to me at:
